Leadership Lessons from Obama

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Received a fabulous, well pictualized presentation enlisting the Leadership Lessons from Obama. Very succinctly and yet powerfully expressed.

The presentation had to be showcased @ Pictualize, since it served two very important reasons:

  • It is an immaculate display of the power of Pictualization.
  • The presentation conveys seemingly simple, actionable and yet very effective steps to develop ones leadership skills.

The presentation can be viewed @ Slideboom here and @ Slideshare here.

Note: The presentation has not been created by Pictualize and was received as an email forward. We would be glad to acknowledge the creator of the presentation, if known.

Fellow Visual Thinkers – Part 5 – Picol – History of the Internet

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Drawing was hard. Illustration was harder. Clay was the hardest.
How about research in visuals? This world never ceases to astonish me.
Melih Bilgil, is doing his research for a common Pictorial language for the web. Yeah, you got it right. A language in pictures.
PICOL is a project for providing free and open icons for electronic devices. The aim is to find a common pictorial language for electronic communication.

In the words of the researcher himself:

Intention is to design an open pictorial language, which can be used and modified by everyone. This shall be my part to the standardization of the world wide web and a step ahead to the semiotic web. The result of my diploma will be an extendable icon-set for people making graphical user interfaces, explaining complex issues with diagrams and whatever they want to do with.

And, it’s not all theory for him. He painstakingly explains his research in the form of a video charting the course of the “ Internet “ Although the video ends at a time when things actually started getting interesting, but the effort nonetheless is applaudable.

Here is the video:

Pictualize Interviewed!

Monday, November 10th, 2008

An extremely exciting time to be moving, this is. We are thoroughly enjoying ourselves with our brain-smashing and creatively super-exciting work. And it feels even better when everyone around us recognizes our efforts.

In one such incident, one of our core team members – Vineesh ended up giving an interview to Mr. Himanshu Sheth – an entrepreneur and a blogger about Pictualize and Entrepreneurship in general.

The interview has been put online in two parts. Read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

Some excerpts about Pictualize are:

Everything starts with a problem, how did the concept of Pictualize arise ?
Pictualize, was born out of the realization that we need to change the current system of communication. It is just too ineffective, incomplete, lacking simplicity and possessing many other issues. The logical solution seemed pictures – the universal language, simple or complex, it is about expressing the core matter and with that came Pictualize.

Pictualize is a catchy name, which are the other names that you came up with while brainstorming & why did you choose Pictualize ?
Anirudh Maitra, our Idea Catalyst had put down numerous names for us to choose from. Pixlr8, Pictualate, and a variety of other names. Am not sure who exactly thought of Pictualize, but the moment it came onto the table we all fell in love with it instantly. Seemed to be love at first sight with the name and then the tag-line “Visualize. Actualize. Realize” followed almost effortlessly.

Who are the current team members and their roles?
Current team members are Aakanksha Gaur, who is currently our Visual Architect and she is the one who churns out all our imagination on paper.Anirudh is the idea catalyst and his wacky ideas are mostly out of this world. He leads in churning out ideas that rock, not just with us, but with others too.I am among the lesser mortals in awe of both of them, who gets to connect them to the rest of the world, i.e. bring us business and think about all the other things.Despite our roles being segregated, we all have an immense amount of fun, brain-jamming together and imagining and dreaming wink. You can know more about us here

Pictures speak louder than words, how do you guys ensure to bring the same creative feeling with each picture ?
It is precisely this effort that differentiates us from all the others who can doodle. We doodle, with a purpose and apply a lot of our mind to it. Three creative beings doing stuff they enjoy, certainly spew out tons of ideas and then it’s more or less a war to select the best.We don’t strive to maintain the creative feeling. The aim is to constantly improve.

What are some of the services that you are planning to offer like Marketing, Branding etc ?
More than marketing or branding, we are aiming to deal with “Communications”. As individuals we all have been brought up with a certain sanctity of the written word and an unusual fear of drawing. We intend to bridge this gap and bring visual communications and understanding within individuals as well as corporations as well as help everyone express themselves visually.

Our current services deal with creating visual presentations for corporations to reach out to their clients/customers in a more understandable and personalized way. Additionally, we are aiding in marketing efforts of our clients.

In the near term, we are targeting to move to clients like UNDP, Micro-finance organizations and NGOs that deal with a large number of people from different backgrounds and it is obviously tough to manage the diversity. We believe that we can offer some order in this chaos of communication through pictures.

“A picture says more…” – Aakanksha Gaur

“Visual thinking overcomes barriers to understanding.”- Anirudh Maitra

“Playing with words is passé. It’s time to communicate with pictures.”- Vineesh Kumar

The team at “Pictualize” comprises of three intellectually de-aligned individuals, who feel strongly about conveying through pictures. We believe that the right pictures can establish a connection with a viewer instantly, something that a bunch of words can seldom hope to achieve.

Aakanksha Gaur, Visual Architect, is the pillar of all creative activities at Pictualize. She is a Computer Science Engineer, with an inborn talent to put ideas into pictures. Apart from being an adept artist, she is also a regular blogger and loves reading.

Anirudh Maitra, Idea Catalyst, is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer, who gives fresh ideas and concepts for projects at Pictualize. Apart from idea storming, he loves to spring up with new business ideas and technology products.

Vineesh Kumar, Chief Rainmaker, is an Electrical Engineer, who is passionate about the techniques people use to explain themselves and how Pictualize can serve them in this regard. He is also involved in giving creative inputs for projects at Pictualize. Work aside; he is an avid blogger and a deep-rooted technology enthusiast.
